Be About That (Patio) Life.

Thank the sweet lord above there is a heat wave going on here in Chi-Town.  The winter hibernation is over people!  So of course outside spaces are on the mind. There’s no better time to plan for that fabulous outside space makeover. Spring is right around the corner; to polish up that patio and turn that sad lonely space into a glam chic oasis should most definitely be on your to-do list. It’s easy to accomplish. All you need is to think of the function, and style you want to convey. The patio should be an extension of your home. It’s a space that serves both social and private purposes so why not make it amazing.

I turned to fashion for my inspiration for this patio design. My Fashion inspiration has a chic timeless style with the leopard print has an unexpected edge. It carries confidence and classic swag which never fails to impress.

inspiration

Very insprired by the skirt, I started the patio moodboard with this:

Indoor/outdoor rug

Add some unexpected elements with function. BoHo Chic hammock is fun and frees up some floor space and allows for a relaxing destination. Hanging black lacquered antlers could serve for a hook to either hang plants, beach towels, or lanterns. The use of a metallic wooden or ceramic garden stool as an accent table or extra seating serves for function and adds an element of glam to the space as well. And don’t be afraid to mix metallics. I incorporated a pair of cooper lantern sconces to ground the high contrast design. The Cooper planters are just the perfect little detail that will create unity and glam to the overall design

A couple things to keep in mind while you are space planning for your patio: It’s important that there is comfortable seating and enough traffic space. The function will guide you to the form of the layout and overall space. It’s also important (as in any space) to always think of the end result before you start to design. Determine the function or functions that the space will serve for you and then design around that. It’s all about how you live and what you want to utilize your outdoor living for may it be entertaining, or lounging and soaking up some sun.
Always choose finishes and fabrics that are suitable for the outdoors. There are so many great outdoor fabrics and finishes out there that can lead you in a direction that you never thought was possible for outside living. Whatever the function it is important to not sacrifice style keep it chic keep it you and don’t be afraid to live outside the box!
